DMMT, a kind of cefotiam drugs, is used to treat such diseases caused by sensitive bacteria as pneumonia, bronchitis, infection of biliary tract, peritonitis, and urinary tract infection, as well as operation or trauma-induced infections and septicemia.

This drug acts by associating with the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in the cell membranes for transpeptidase acylation. In this way, DMMT can suppress bacteria cell wall synthesis and cross liking of mucopeptide, thus inhibiting cell division and growth and resulting in dissolution and death of bacteria.

The DMMT, which is a side chain of cefotiam, is applied to cefotiam production. It comes as a white or yellowish crystal, with high purity up to 98%.
